concept "parachute"
Representative-memorial plateau of the 63. parachute formation in Niš is an open plateau with its dual function and character.
Concept is defined through the stone paved representative plateau and memorial green park in between which stands a colossal monument facing both sides.
The concept emphasizes the place and shape of the centrally positioned monument with the parachute sculpture, making a barrier between dual characters of the plateau but also making their mutual connection.
Urban concept defines a central axe lining a representative plateau, the monument and a memorial green park.
Representative plateau is defined through the entrance procession ramp and grey sandstone paved plateau. It is bordered with its three leveled platform stands and separated from the surrounding neighborhood with a green belt intended for purposes of relaxation and family visits.
Monument is defined with, black granite linear pedestal, granite square frame and a white marble parachute sculpture partially relieved in it.
Memorial green park is defined through a random placement of 50 granite cubes in deep grass representing deceased parachutes.
Architectural concept emphasizes sharp lines, dominance of horizontality and a sculpture as the only superstructure rising from the plateau.
